A salsa weekend
Every few months or so, dance devotees in western Pennsylvania will bring in the top dancers in their field for a weekend of intensive instruction. This coming weekend will be a time for Salsa Dancing in western Pennsylvania.
The weekend kicks off Friday at Palisades Ballroom in McKeesport (if you've never seen it you need to go, just to see the old dance hall) with music by the Mambo Tribe Dance Company. There is a free salsa lesson at 8:30 p.m. and the first band set by Mambo Tribe begins at 10:15 p.m.
Workshops will be held all day Saturday and Sunday at various places throughout Pittsburgh. Salsa dancing is a really fun, really sweaty way to meet people and get a really good workout at the same time. Don't be intimidated if you've never tried dancing Salsa until now. The basic step is an easy one and it is only as complicated as you want it to be.
