Complaints and questions
C: Besides publishing winning lottery numbers, tell what the current jackpots are for each lottery. - P.R.
A: We feel an obligation to provide our readers with the winning lottery numbers, because they have come to rely on the newspaper as a place where they can get that information when they want it, rather than waiting for it to be announced on the radio or TV.
We draw the line there, however. We don't believe it is our business to encourage our readers to play the lottery, to entice them to spend their money foolishly in the hopes of becoming multi-millionaires at ridiculous 50-million-to-1 odds without sheding a drop of sweat.
The state is in the business of swindling people in this manner, and if the state wishes to squeeze more money from more people in this endeavor, than it can advertise what the jackpots are going to be.
