Brain drained in Ukraine

Staff writer Heidi Price and I are here on business - newspaper business, and we have been working hard. Our throats are hoarse from trying to explain what we do and how and why we do it to these hardworking journalists. We come out of these talk sessions feeling as if our brains have been drained.
We're also learning a lot about Ukraine and its history, politics and people. They are, by the way, absolutely wonderful people.
Along the way, we're actually doing a little journalism ourselves. We interviewed two state politicians yesterday. One of them was listing several problems his constituents faced, and he mentioned "Volki." I asked him in disbelief: "Wolves? Are wolves really a problem?" Apparently, they are. Last summer it was quite hot and there were forest fires that forced many of them from the forest, and 15 people were attacked. Great. Now I have something else to worry about.
Honestly, it hasn't all been hard work. I'll have to tell you about the massage and the trip to the disco next time.
